Physical Layout
The Sapphire 6850 Vapour-X in all its glory.
A look along the other side of the card. You can see the curve in the fan blades that help to push the air sideways instead of downwards.
The rear of the card showing the two DVI ports, two mini Display ports, a HDMI port and some exhaust vents.
With the main cooler removed we can see the PCB and the small Mosfet cooler and those second generation Black Diamond chokes which have heatsinking on top so should run cool. The PCB appears to be well laid out and features solid state caps only which aids a longer product lifetime.
Here is the Crossfire finger, this card only has one, so two-way Crossfire is all that is possible.
The two 6 pin power connectors.
The “Barts” GPU die.
Let’s take a look at this special Vapor-X cooler. The fins are quite widely spaced which helps the cooler to perform when the fan is running slowly.
You can see the key to the Vapor-X design here, the whole piece of copper that the GPU comes in contact is like a large flat heatpipe.
Good to see all the memory chips getting properly cooled. The thermal paste appeared to be well applied too.
