Features and Functions
Normally this keyboard does nothing that you wouldn’t expect of a standard one; you press keys to input commands to your computer. Nothing special. If anything, the palm rest makes the experience slightly comfier than with a normal keyboard.
All that changes when you press the G key at the top right. The key reaction speed is raised to 0.01, meaning you get an almost instant signal sent to your PC whenever a key is pushed. The patented n-by-n technology is also implemented, this allows you to input as many keys as you want at a time without the usual 4 to 5 restriction that most keyboards have built in.
The n-by-n technology also presents faster key speed when holding down a key. This might not seem like much, but it could mean the difference in particular games.
It also turns the Windows key off. A gift from heaven for all gamers.
8 orange keys come with the keyboard, as well as a handy key-changing tool. The general idea behind these keys is that you replace keys you’re often be using or that you would normally forget about with the orange keys so that you’ll remember to use them more. It’s an interesting idea though I find that it’s too easy to lose keys after you’ve replaced them, making it annoying in the long run.
Something that irked me was the lack of USB, with PS/2 support only. Most motherboards have a PS/2 port built in, but in my opinion it’s out-dated now that USB2.0 and 3.0 is available. It somewhat counteracts the 0.01 reaction time when the actual transfer speed is limited by out-dated technology.
One other feature of the Skydigital that will definately be handy for the clumsy gamer is the fact that this board is also waterproof. There’s a thin waterproof membrane around the internals to make sure nothing shorts out if you spill your beer or other beverage across the keys.
