Synology DS411 Disk Station Rundown

Physical Layout

The casing for the NAS is out of character with Synology’s usual white/grey combo. This one is pure, matt black with a slightly textured surface.

The rear has a pair of 80mm fans to keep the interior cool, with the connectors just underneath. Here you’ll find a DC in, ethernet port, twin USB 2.0 ports and an eSATA. Shame not to see a USB 3.0 connection, at least one.

The underside has rubber feet to keep it sturdy and to elevate the base; this allows sliding without scratching the casing.

Opening up the interior, you can see that there is space for up to 4 seperate HDDs. This allows for a wide variety of different RAID configurations. Each drive is installed via a simple slide tray mechanism that works really well and takes seconds to setup.
