Physical Features

The 7XB is quite a professional looking piece of kit, with a silver and matt black colour scheme with some white higlight styling on the sides.

The headband features a thick, plush faux leather comfort strip that has plenty of give and should be pretty comfortable when sat on your dome.

Each earcup has the same material keeping things padded. Steelseries say that this faux leather is there to help noise cancel, keeping any sounds around you muted. Steelseries do offer an alternative cloth earcup padding, that lets you hear whats going on around you a bit more; but this must be purchased seperately.

Hidden in the left headphone is the extendable microphone. It uses a similar material to the rest of the headset, but it does feel quite loose in its housing. This allows it to slide out easily, but it does rattle about.

On the right hand earphone there’s several buttons. There’s volume up, down, power on, ExactSnd and Livemix. The first three are obvious, the fourth however adjusts the headset between 3 different pre-set EQ settings. This is quite nice for console gaming where EQ isn’t possible to adjust. The last one, LiveMix, lets you utilise Steelseries auto volume adjustment tool which keeps player voices above in-game sound in the mix.

There’s also quite a lot of flex in each cup. This allows the 7XB to be thrown about with less risk to damaging it.
