Nintendo unveiled their Switch console today, finally providing vital details about the hybrid gaming system’s hardware, launch titles and more. Here’s what you need to know.Nintendo Switch Hardware
The main idea of the Switch is that it’s a convertible: it can used as a handheld, like a Game Boy or a 3DS, or plugged into its base station and thereby connected to a TV. Interestingly, handheld runs at 720p on its 6.2-inch screen, but outputs at 1080p when in its docking station.
Internally, the Switch is powered by a custom Nvidia Tegra processor, backed with 32GB of onboard storage, expandable via Micro SD. Games will come on physical [...]
Well ok, £149 and £199, but nobody cares about those extra pennies really, I think we’ve all caught on to the ‘just under’ marketing tactic. However the price drop is real, with Asda now pricing the two units £100 lower than they were when the new console was launched in November.
This is of course the second time Asda has slashed the price on Nintendo’s new console. It did so back in March, cutting the price then by £50, so obviously the original price cut didn’t have a dramatic impact on sales, as here we are less than two months later, doing the same thing.
It wouldn’t be surprising if other [...]
Nintendo missed its sales target for the Wii U, by over 1.5 million consoles, leading everyone to believe that it would be unlikely to turn a profit for the past financial year – except that’s just what it’s done and it’s not too shabby either.
While it actually sold less games and hardware than it did last year, when the company had its first loss in many years, it managed to look a little more effective this year thanks to the strong Yen, which helped Nintendo profit by around seven billion yen (£46 million).
Eurogamer reports however, that if Nintendo doesn’t want to make a catastrophic loss in 2013, it will need to do something [...]
Nintendo has been forced to cut back its sales predictions for the newly released Wii U console from 5.5 million to 4 million by the end of the year. It also initially said that it would manage to push 24 million Wii U games by 2014, that has also been revised to a much reduced 16 million.
This forecast is so poor in fact that Nintendo believes the Wii U will be the main cause for it having an unprofitable year.
Still, it’s not like nobody is buying these things. So far Nintendo has sold just over three million Wii U consoles and just under 12 million games. The biggest percentage of these was shifted in the US, followed by Europe and Japan trailing [...]
Nintendo’s Wii U has only been out in the UK for a few days at this point, but already it’s released several patches for the console. Today sees the unveiling of another, though it is mainly focused on minor tweaks but reports are that it still takes up to an hour to download.
This is worrying considering it’s a firmware update, since if those are interrupted halfway through it can brick a machine. Chances are most of this time is involved with the downloading, not the installing, but still.
With regards to what the update does, Nintendo said that it makes “further improvements to [...]
Despite the fact that the Wii U is set to replace the Wii as Nintendo’s current generation console in just two days, Google has revealed a Youtube app for the machine, letting users watch videos from the sharing site on their Wii.
It’s only in the US however, so don’t get too excited – as if you were already. The EU version of the app is apparently coming in several months. The currently available one is designed with the pointer interface in mind, letting users cycle trough videos, search and browse by certain categories of videos.
While this [...]
