How about a nice feel good story to wrap up Friday? Invictus, one of the biggest names in the professional League of Legends world, has donated its winnings at a recent tournament to the earthquake relief effort in China: some £30,000.
Invictus faced tough opposition this week when it took on favourites World Elite in the finals of the Chinese Gigabyte StarsWar League, however the team emerged victorious and claimed the grand prize of £31,500. That prize money is now going to help those affected by the earthquake that hit South Western China last Saturday, killing over 160 people and injuring as many as 5,700.
MOBA arena title League of Legends, is continuing to grow exponentially. We last heard that it was generating over a billion game hours per month, but now it’s hit a new all time high of five million players, all battling away against each other at the same time.
This isn’t a one off deal either, but a regular occurrence. As PCGamesN points out, this is way, way more than Dota 2 which has turned out to be the most played Steam game since the service was launched. In comparison, it only has 300,000 concurrent players.
Perhaps the most impressive part of [...]
While it’s far from an official release, one Redditor called Microtony, has created a model of the Season 3 item shop for League of Legends, letting everyone have a snoop around the interface and become accustomed with it before the new season begins.
Unfortunately it’s not quite finished as of yet, as the buy button doesn’t work – meaning you can’t do any custom item setups – but it does give players a good way to find their way around the interface, learning where their favourite weapons and tools are. Some have suggested that it would be nice to see a stat calculator built in – along with a functioning buy button – allowing [...]
Riot games is introducing a new system to help promote good natured play in League of Legends, a game that while perhaps more friendly than Heroes of Newerth of either of the DotA games, certainly still has its fair share of assholes.
The MOBA developer opened up a user managed tribunal in the past, offering IP to those that participated in passing judgement on their fellow players, but it didn’t go far enough. It’s tried the stick, now it’s trying the carrot.
Players will be able to apply honour to the accounts of fellow teammates and opponents, in one of several categories: Helpful, Friendly, Teamwork and Honoured Opponent. You won’t be able to [...]
EU gamers of the popular MOBA title, League of Legends, received an email from developer and publisher Riot Games over the weekend, informing them that their usernames and passwords have been compromised by hackers.
Fortunately for anyone scared that their RP buying practices might have rewarded the hackers with more than just login information, Riot has been keen to point out that no credit card or payment information was stolen. Simply the username and password.
This does however mean that anyone that finds themselves under the European banner of LoL players will need to get in there and change their password, but it shouldn’t mean much more than that. However, [...]
Makers of hit MOBA title League of Legends, Riot Games, has spoken out officially on its community forum, declaring itself as firmly against the Stop Online Piracy Act that is being pushed through American congress.
“These bills are a misguided attempt to curb the illegal piracy of copyrighted content (like movies, music and games),” said CEO and co-founder of Riot, Brandon Beck.
Cleverly bringing it back round to his own game, Beck described an instance where SOPA could be abused thanks to its vague wording. “Under the law, ad networks, payment providers and internet service providers are now potentially liable for their user’s infringement. [...]
