Google’s head honcho Eric Schmidt has made it clear that while he considers Apple’s new Siri application to be quite a threat to the Android brand, he and the company he heads are ready to step up to the plate and take it head on.
“Apple has launched an entirely new approach to search technology with Siri, its voice-activated search and task-completion service built into the iPhone 4S.” This was said as part of a letter to a US Senate antitrust subcommittee of lawyers; a group of people that really helps push forward innovation.
“Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter also allow users to leverage their social networks to find [...]
While the fan boys might cry fowl, it seems that in the last few months, Samsung has completely dominated handset rival Apple in terms of overall sales. The official numbers are in and while Apple sold an impressive 17.1 handsets, Samsung managed to shift an unprecedented 27.8 million.
“Samsung’s rise has been driven by a blend of elegant hardware designs, popular Android services, memorable sub-brands and extensive global distribution,” said Alex Spektor from Strategy Analytics.
“Samsung has demonstrated that it is possible, at least in the short term, to differentiate and grow by using the Android ecosystem.”
Apple has said [...]
Despite the entry level price tag being over three times this figure, it turns out that the iPhone 4S, Apple’s latest smartphone release, costs less than $200 to manufacture. Fudzilla has been looking at an iSuppli break down, and it turns out that even with the improved camera, more powerful processor and more memory, with most of the components being the same as those found in the original iPhone 4, and with global prices coming down on certain items, that the price to make the handsets is pretty small; especially when compared with the sale price.
If you want to buy a 4s at the moment, or were one of the few million that bought one over the launch weekend, you’d [...]
A new authorised biography of Steve Jobs is set to land soon, delivering many different revelations about the recently deceased technology CEO. It turns out one of the biggest ones is that the leader of the fruity firm planned to “destroy” Google’s Android platform, threatening to spend all of his company’s money and his last few breaths to do so.The quote that many sites are looking at the most is this one:
I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.
He apparently believed that the Google mobile OS was too similar to Apple’s own iOS to be nothing but outright [...]
Apple and Samsung have been battling it out in the court rooms as much as the markets in the past few months, with the stakes looking to be raised again with the latter firm now looking to get the iPhone 4S banned from sale in the US.
This comes a few weeks after Apple forced a temporary sales ban on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia and select parts of Europe.
Samsung glaims that their reason for persuing a ban on the iPhone 4S is:
Apple has continued to violate our patent rights and free ride on our technology,” Samsung said in a statement. “We will no longer stand idly by and will steadfastly protect our intellectual property.
The question [...]
Apple is doing very well in 2011, generating nearly 100% improvement on last years profits. As of the 25th of September, they have generated upwards of $25.9bn (£16.5bn). This takes into consideration the iPhone 4s, which has only really just started its sale history, but it contributed massively to the 17.1 million iPhones sold this year.
Apparently though this is less than expected, which seems hard to believe. Some are claiming that Apple was expecting to push out around 20 million handsets by this point in the year. The reason they didn’t reach this target is because people held off buying a new iPhone, waiting for the 4s to be released. Well, duh?
