Antec CP-850w

Box & Bundle

If the power supply is anything like the size of its packaging then it’s going to be a monster. The front entails an image of the new CPX form factor unit surrounded by a few important details; firstly Antec have sought out 80 Plus Certification and of course it’s RoHS compliant and SLI ready.

The back is relatively plain and lists a huge amount of features in different European languages along with a short blurb on the 80 Plus Certification at the bottom.

One of the sides also points out some very important information – the new CPX form factor is only compatible with three cases – oh and they are Antec cases too of course! The three enclosures are: the P183, P193 and Twelve Hundred each of which are a considerable amount of money and this kind of negates Antec’s claim that the CP-850 offers ‘great price-to-performance ratio’ unless of course you plan to mod a different case.

However, even this is not going to be easy for cases with top-mounted power supplies and no separate power supply chamber, as the new form factor is much larger than it’s twenty year old ATX counterpart.

The expected accessories come bundled with the unit:

  • Power cable
  • 4 screws
  • Manual

The manual is more of a fold out sheet but it contains all the necessary information and, like the ATX form factor, it is secured with 4 screws except, in the three compatible cases, a bracket must be removed in order for the larger unit to be installed.
