QPad CT Grin

Testing

Methodology

Mouse mats and other peripherals fall into an interesting category for testing, as your opinion on them tends to be very personal, as the mat, mouse or keyboard has to be right for you, beyond having the specifications to do what you want with it. Therefore these reviews can be highly subjective so as always, please make sure to test a peripheral for yourself before you buy it.

However with that said, our testing methods involve using the mat over prolonged gaming and general usage periods to test its gaming ability and comfort.
The games used for testing were as follows:

  • Battlefield 2
  • Flash Games

Battlefield 2

Battlefield 2 is a fast paced first person shooter that requires pinpoint accuracy and sharp reflexes in order to excel online. I jumped into battle and immediately found that the QPAD CT is very easy to slide the mouse across. The combination of this mouse pad with the Raptor M3 Platinum mouse I was using was a sure fire combination and made for some great gaming. The high DPI of the mouse worked excellently on this pad as the small movements were picked up brilliantly so as to give great accuracy.

In terms of performance, cloth pads are by far my favourite and this one ranks pretty high up; it’s just so easy for the mouse to slide across and very quiet too.

Flash Games

These online browser games are great for mice and mouse pad testing as you can play a range of different genres in a short space of time. I selected a number of different types, from puzzles to sports and from strategies to shooters. In each case, the high precision that this pad offers was second to none. There’s really not any way to fault it – cloth pads really do rule!

Comfort

Again, cloth has another advantage in that it’s extremely comfortable on the wrist. The 4mm thickness also makes it very soft and is also great as if you have an uneven surface beneath the pad, it doesn’t affect the surface on the QPAD Grin.

Durability

I had a few worries that with the Hybratek coating on top, it would just peel off and the edge would curl up. As it is, the pad has been very well designed and even picking at the edges I struggled to do any damage.

Cost

The problem as with so many quality products is the price – this CT series retail at 33 Euros which relates to still about £30.Obviosuly this is a high price for a mouse pad alone; all I can say is that it’s a very high quality product.
