Genius Ergo 555
Genius’ Ergo 555 Laser Mouse
Aesthetics wise, the Ergo 555 doesn’t look too bad. The sides of the mouse are rubberized whilst the top is a glossy pearl grey finish. This really looks top notch. At the centre of the mouse – where the scroll wheel is – beneath the glossy black plastic, is a small OLED display unit. This unit reports on the current DPI settings.
On the left-side of the Genius there are four programmable buttons where you can select their functions in the included software.
On the right-side – oddly – there are also a couple of buttons. Both of these are for adjusting the DPI on the fly. But why two buttons? Well, unlike most mice, the Ergo’s DPI can be customized to your liking across both X-axis and Y-axis. This is a rather odd idea, but maybe crucial for some hardcore gamers.
Just above the scroll wheel, there’s another button. This one enables you to choose from one of the five game profiles – which can be created in the software. This is a handy feature when quickly changing from playing a FPS to a RTS without manually having to change all the settings each time.
The shape of the mouse is similar to that of Logitech mice where there’s a large groove in the left-side for your thumb. This shape unfortunately makes the Ergo 555 only right-hand friendly as it would be uncomfortable for lefties. However, for right hand users, the Genius is very comfortable – I can see why they’ve called it the Ergo…Ergonomic anyone?
At the bottom of the mouse are four quite large Teflon feet – these are very smooth and quite rugged and should help the Ergo 555 to glide seamlessly across your chosen gaming surface – we hope.
The cable which flows from the mouse is the trendier fabric type which is often found on high-end mice such as the Logitech G5. This creates no performance boost, but often aids in giving a higher sense of quality.

Awsum mouse, one problem…….It has nine keys, why can only seven be programmed?
