Synology DS210j NAS

Conclusion

NAS drives are always an odd one to review as there isn’t that must testing that can be done beyond making sure it all works as it should. This NAS drive from Synology certainly does that, and at not too rediculous a price either. It does have an ugly front panel, and the setup is lengthy – volume creation taking 4 hours seems silly – and not particularly well instructed.

That said, once all is ready to go, the displays are clean, nice to look at, intuitive. Features are easily found and fully fleshed out meaning there is plenty that can be done with even the smaller ones. The DS210j from Synology is a great NAS drive with a few hiccups. If you can overlook them, I’d heartily recommend it.

Pros Cons
Very extensive features Pretty ugly front panel
Clean, uncluttered interface Not enough setup help, instructions
Simple accessibility, relatively intuitive Long setup time
