Zotac GTS 250 AMP!

Overclocking

Overclocking was done using RivaTuner and with some factory overclocking already completed from the original GTS 250, the increases weren’t huge. The core maxed out at 789MHz with the Shaders increased to a frequency of 2835MHz whilst the memory was boosted to 1216MHz.

The performance boost clearly isn’t going to be huge but it is, in most cases, a significant increase. For Far Cry 2 the average FPS goes up by 4.1% and for Clear Sky typically around 3-6%. Therefore, a little extra tweaking does lead to some modest increases if nothing drastic.

Noise

The stock cooler is not a problem until the core reaches moderate to high levels of load whereby, under automatic fan control, the noise becomes very noticeable and a little annoying. It’s certainly not going to please silent enthusiasts but as stock coolers go for high end GPUs, it’s by no means bad.

Cost

The price of Zotac’s GTS 250 AMP! is typically around £120 which is very close to that of a 4870 and it has to be said that, for the most part, the 4870 is top dog.
