Scythe Bay Rafter

Testing

To test the Bay Rafter there’s not a lot we can do other than some temperature tests to see how much we can reduce our disk drives’ temperature by.

I did this by booting the computer up, stopping all processes which are not needed and using Speedfan to monitor the hard drives temperature. The temperature is then measured after 30mins.

I’ll be doing this test on the following setups:

  • Bay Rafter with 92mm Noiseblocker
  • Bay Rafter without fan
  • Stock hard drive 3.5” bay

Results

Scythe Bay Rafter Review

*Temperatures in degrees Celsius

The results are fairly conclusive; a fan doesn’t really reduce the hard disk temperature by a lot. However, the main purpose of the Bay Rafter is to convert a 5.25” bay into a 3.5” bay, and it does this very well.

Cost

The Scythe Bay Rafter costs £9. For what is essentially a small piece of plastic, I see this as quite expensive.
