Noctua NF-S12B FLX

Box & Bundle

Noctua take a step away from the generic black case fans and use a somewhat unusual, yet certainly distinctive, colour scheme. The peach and brown look has become something of a trade mark for Noctua and the packaging follows in similar suit.

The styled window on the front not only shows off the NF-S12B FLX fan contained inside but also displays one of the anti-vibration rubber mounts. The packaging is in fact very similar to the other fan ranges with the listed features and Noctua logo evident at the top and the black strip at the bottom with the marketing phrase ‘sound-optimised premium components’.

The back has been crafted into what essentially is a book. The exterior sees the four main features explained alongside a number of translations. Opening the flap up, by pulling the Velcro apart, reveals a multitude of graphs and images each referring to a specific part of the technology involved in Noctua’s latest fan.

Many thermal solution manufacturers include fan controllers but not Noctua; they instead have developed their own method for adjusting the fan speeds. It comes in the form of two wires which restrict the voltage and thus the speed of the impeller aptly named ULNA (Ultra-Low-Noise-Adapter) and LNA (Low-Noise-Adapter) which give an approximate RPM of 600 and 900 respectively.

The extent of the scope of delivery does not end there though. Four rubber vibration compensators are included (along with 4 screws) for installation purposes with the aim of preventing the transfer of vibrations to the chassis.

A 3-4pin adaptor is the final accessory just in case you are running short of fan connections on your motherboard.
