Glacialtech X-Wing R1
Testing
Methodology
To test laptop coolers we take the temperature of the notebook’s CPU and GPU at idle and load, with and without the cooler. The temperatures are taken using Speedfan.
Idle state is considered to be after 30 minutes of no user activity on the notebook. Load state is taken to be after running S&M for 30 minutes at 100% load.
The laptop used in this testing was a Dell Inspiron 1525 with a 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core processor.
Ambient temperature throughout testing was 18 degrees C.

Evidently, although the X-Wing does outperform the NZXT Cryo, it’s only by a couple of degrees at most and the temperatures are really not very different from using the laptop without a cooler. That said, the extra drop in temperatures could be very useful to the running of the laptop and extend the life of the components.
Weight
Although a carry bag is included with the product, at 1.2kg and quite sizeable it’s not the easiest to transport. After all doesn’t carrying a big cooler around kind of defeat the point of having a laptop which is that it is small and easy to move around?
Touchable Control Panel
This new feature is actually a very good addition to the laptop cooler indeed as it not only allows the user to very easily monitor the fan speeds and temperature and thus adjust the fan speed according to set their personal level of noise and cooling but it also is great for when listening to music. You can easily change track or adjust the volume without having to open up the whole program which takes a lot longer.
The control panel is definitely a thumbs up from me and brings something new to the laptop cooling market of which I expect more companies to follow in the footsteps of the X-Wing and do similar things.
Cost
AT $60, the X-Wing is really not that expensive and when you consider all the technology such as the control panel, it’s not bad at all. If it is a little too pricey for you though, the R2 is at a reduced price simply without the touchable front control panel.
