Evercool Rifling

Evercool Rifling Fan

The fan frame is 80mm in size. Currently this is the only size that Evercool are offering the rifling fan in. It comes in an attractive chrome finish. This looks okay at first, but when looking more closely, it looks as though someone has just got out a can of chrome spray paint and given it a blast. Moreover, I’m use to a thick robust frame on case fans; unfortunately this isn’t the case with the Rifling fan. Because they have tightly squeezed the fan blade into the design, the ‘tunnel’ of the fan’s frame is very thin and flimsy. This poor quality is reflected in the weight, it’s indeed very light – too light for my liking.

When looking at the front of the fan you can see seven fan blades. At the centre of the impeller an Evercool sticker is evident which reads the product’s slogan, ‘Powerful & Silent’, we’ll find out if this is true later on. The actual frame which the impeller sits in is oddly shaped. It curves outwards from the rear of the fan, and the blades curve themselves into the shape. In the impeller frame there are slats which span all around it; these are oddly placed below the fan blade. Therefore, air will actually be exhausted out these slats rather than being drawn in. This means that some of the hot air and dust from the case will be blown out the sides of the fan rather than all out the rear.

Looking at the rear of the fan, we can see four struts which hold the fan and its motor in place. If a fan was to fully exhaust all the air from its funnel, the blade would need to be as close to the frame as possible. Unfortunately, the gap between the blade of the fan and funnel is one of the largest I’ve actually seen. Therefore the maximum potential airflow from the fan is definitely not being achieved.

To power the fan, a 3 pin adapter has been used. If you have no 3 pin headers on your motherboard, don’t fret because you can use the included Molex adapter. It would’ve been nice for Evercool to update the design to also support PWM.
