Installation Part 3: The Extras
First things first, I decided to wrap the noisiest part of the case up with acoustic foam, and that involves cutting it to shape. Thankfully the boys at QuietPC – knowing I’m cack handed at the best of times – drew little lines to help me cut the right shape out. As you can see, it’s not a perfect cut, but what can ya do?
Wrapping it around the drive is relatively simple. I found it easiest to remove the mounting plates first and slowly remove the tape covering the sticky side of the foam.
After that I replaced the rear exhaust fan, and mounted it using the rubber fan plugs. These are relatively difficult to install, as you can’t screw them in, and pressure from the outside simply bends it. My installation technique was threading the plug through the fan and grill, then using a pair of pliers, I pulled it from the inside, while pushing from the outside.
Adding the GPU heatsink fan gives several options. You can simply super glue it to the heatsink, but I wanted a little more flexibility than that, so wrapping cable ties underneath the ‘sink, I threaded the ties through the fan mount holes, and tied them together in the middle.
The silicon feet are very easy to attach, and are added simply by peeling away the cover for the sticky underside, and pressing them firmly on whichever side you want them to go.
