Jeantech Unicorn

Strength

In regards to the strength test, the case passed with flying colours as it withstood all of my weight without so much as a bend. Evidently, the Unicorn is a robust case and there would be no problem throwing it around at a LAN party. Thus, Jeantech secure a definite 3/3 for strength, with this product.

Cooling and Noise

As I mentioned before there are no fans included despite the array of fan brackets located in specific areas around the case. Therefore, it’s hard to assess cooling and noise. However, there does seem to be a vast cooling potential and also ability to expand in this department. This is mainly due to the specific fan brackets in places such as next to the GPU and behind the drive bays, which allow air to be circulated and heat to be dissipated almost all over the case. As for the noise, the case seems very quiet and dampens vibrations effectively.. However, I’m sure if fans were installed in all possible locations this could vary and so the balance of noise and cooling is very much determined by the fans you choose to install.

Drive Bays

The 5.25” bays are incredibly easy to install. They simply require the drive bay notch to be removed allowing the drive to slot in. Then the drive is aligned with the holes in the bracket; the clip pushes in and with a twist of the notch, the drive is held in place very securely.

Unfortunately, the same ease of installation cannot be used to describe the HDD mounting mechanism. This requires the use of rails which are supposed to fit alongside the HDD and then the whole thing slides into the bay. In theory great; in practise awful. Not only did the rails not fit tight against my hard drive, but when the rails and the HDD were inserted into the bay, it was not secure at all. In fact, the whole thing simply fell through the back. Therefore, I decided to consult the manual only to realise there is no manual for this case, only a series or poor diagrams on stickers dotted around the case that are less than helpful. Overall, I think Jeantech really need to take a look at this particular issue.

Cable Management

Cable management for this case is not a problem as the cables needed for the front panel simply slot through a hole at the bottom and all the others can easily be put out the way as there is plenty of room.

Cost

The Jeantech Unicorn is currently on the market for £80; certainly a reasonable price for a case of this calibre.
