Arctic Cooling Silentium T5

Arctic Cooling Silentium T5

Externals

The externals are clad in black and white and to be quite frank, first impressions do not speak of any great styling. The front bezel consists of a central white column with a black border with both two 5.25” external drive bays and two 3.25” bays for Floppy Disk Drives.

With the latter device, not too common anymore it would make sense to give additional 5.25” bays for DVD or blu ray players.

Moving further down we come to the power button and then the ports:

  • 2 x 2.0 USB ports
  • 1 x Firewire port
  • Microphone Jack
  • Headphone Jack

Again I’m a little disappointed here with many cases now including an eSATA port due to its superior ability for data transfer.

Overall the front panel is a bit of a letdown and with it constructed of plastic it has neither the look nor the feel of a highest quality build.

This is especially evident when removing the front fascia by unclipping the sides and then allowing the whole panel to hinge open. This reveals the larger bays further along with the three 3.5” hard drive bays which require the hard drive to be slotted in from the front.

The two sides are both plain black with no really another of note to mention save except for the interesting feet on the bottom of the case – a number of plastic slots along either side but the underside itself is simply solid plastic which begs the question why have Arctic Cooling chosen this design? Well, it does provide additional vents for hot air to leave the internal chamber but in terms of aesthetics it’s not the most attractive.

Moving to the rear, the lack of a PSU slot is immediately noticeable with the included power supply mounted at the front of the chassis and a power cord running to the back.

A motherboard I/O plate, seven PCI slots, a large vent and dual 80mm exhausts fans situated at the top.
