Xbox 360 Dashboard Update Expected before year’s end
Microsoft is expected to be releasing a new update for their Xbox 360 dashboard by the end of the year. It’s thought to be bringing a small overhaul of the service as well as adding some new features.
One of these is a “Twist Control” that essentially allows players to flick their controller around to control the interface. Presumably you need the Kinect sensor to do this, and why you wouldn’t just use the quite convenient joysticks to control this is unknown at this point. Voice commands as well as other motions will apparently also be possible.
“Beacons” is quite an unsurprising addition as developers scramble to include social networking in their gaming platforms. This one allows you to share whatever you’re doing with your online friends at any time. Prepare for an influx of “boom headshot” status updates.
Beacons will also provide a stronger messenging surface than is currently available, finally ditching the quite antiquated one that Microsoft currently employs.
Other facebook interactions planned include the ability to “like” games and leave comments on their respective pages. Twitter integration is also expected, though Microsof thave yet to specifically mention this.
