Final Fantasy series developer Square Enix has issues a statement saying that its member services had been hacked. The company was quick to state though that credit card details of its user base had not been compromised.
The member service that has been compromised is free to users in Japan and US, so there wasn’t any payment details available to the nefarious individuals that broke in to the system. Square has temporarily taken the service down as of 12 December, to allow an investigation and counter measures to be under taken.
“We are assessing the full extent of this potential breach to determine what data, if any, was compromised and will provide more details as soon as possible,” the statement read.
“While some personal information may have been accessed, we can confirm that there is no possibility of any credit card information leak from this incident, since the server in question stores no credit card information.”
This is hardly the first company to be hacked, but you’d think they would begin to use better security at this point. It not only can happen to anyone, it is happening to everyone. Protect yourself and your user’s data.
