Napster Developers Bringing Airtime Social Networking

The two Shawns/Seans behind Napster, Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker, have announced that they’re looking to get back into the front running for futuretech development, with their current venture: Airtime. Designed to be a social network with in-built chatroulette style webcam meetings. Apparently the site will also link users by their interests, introducing them to each other via video. Yea, there won’t be any random jackers on this.

Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber’s agent Scott Braun and Will.I.Am have apparently invested nearly $11 million into the project, as they attempt to get in on what they imagine could be the next facebook. Sean Parker famously made his current fortune by being part of the early days of the social networking giant.

The developers have been quoted saying that the new Airtime website would act as, “a universal host, that is introducing people, smashing people together”. I don’t really remember every wanting to be smashed into people I don’t know. Do people make friends on social networks? Maybe I’m anti-social, but I don’t want anyone I don’t know being able to see anything about me.

Why would you?

I also still find it hard to believe that Hollywood decided they should get Justin Timberlake to play this guy:
