EA Games’ CEO prompted to resign by board
Now ex-head at EA Games, John Riccitiello, has had to hand in his letter of resignation after pressuring from the board of directors. His self admittance was that a poor financial showing for the last year was down to his leadership – though the compliments have been pouring in since the news hit.
In the mean time, Larry Probst will be acting interim leader until a new CEO can be appointed. “We thank John for his contributions to EA since he was appointed CEO in 2007, especially the passion, dedication and energy he brought to the company every single day,” said Probst. “John has worked hard to lead the company through challenging transitions in our industry, and was instrumental in driving our very significant growth in digital revenues.”
Not everyone has been so praising however. Kotaku has a list of the greatest John Riccitiello jokes twitter has thrown up over the past 24 hours. As you might expect with the recent Sim City problems, there’s a lot of sever down jokes, lot of paid for DLC gags. There’s some good ones in there.
However Peter Moore, first mate at EA Games, has said that this is no time to joke however, but a sad day for our industry. “John not only helped propel our company and interactive entertainment into new experiences, thus enticing millions of new people to become ‘gamers’, his work leading the ESA in recent years has helped ensure that we don’t experience the fate of the music industry.”
Thanks to Eurogamer for its run down.
