The PlayStation 4 will be priced at £300 on launch day, according to a new report from one newspaper. Apparently this isn’t a conversion from Japanese pricing either, but a true UK price point.
“Industry sources and leaked internal documents suggest that Sony is considering pricing the new device at about £300, more than £100 cheaper than the starting cost of its predecessor, the PlayStation 3,” suggests the Times.
If true, this would place the PS4 at a lower price point than the PlayStation 3 was launched at. This would be a smart move on Sony’s part if doable, as the PS3 suffered from poor sales early on, partially due to its late release – compared to the Xbox 360 and Wii – as well as a higher cost for buyers.
The PS4 is expected to be debuted for the first time tomorrow at a Sony press conference. It’s not known whether a full price will be revealed then, but we will be seeing what the machine looks like, along with the controllers and perhaps some information on what games will be available at launch.
