Road Rash is a game I spent a lot of time in my youth enjoying and like the guys behind Road Redemption, I agree, it’s time someone made another game in the style of that racing, beat ’em up genre. Now though, you too can be part of its development stage through the newly launched Kickstarter campaign.
At the time of writing, Road Redemption has managed to score over $35,000 from 1,200 backers exactly. There’s still a fair way to go, over $120,000 but with 27 days remaining, things are looking good so far. Kicktraq seems to be think it’ll make it by quite a large margin, generating at least $100,000 more than the developers are asking for.
Unlike Road Rash, Road Redemption is looking to add a bit of story and more to the gameplay than simply racing form A-B in a series of longer and more difficult courses. In this world, biker gangs rule the roads and you’ll need to work your way up the ranks after a stint in jail, to bring prosperity to your chosen group.
However this can extend online too, with players able to form gangs that can compete against others for dominance.
Several mission types include: Combat race, where you’ll be racing to reach a specific goal – such as a broken down armoured car full of cash. Police Escape sees you running from bikers, cars and helicopters, whilst in Assassin, you have to take out the leader of a rival biker gang.
While the project certainly has legs, the shown in-game footage looks a little ropey at the moment. Here’s hoping it gets a lot better before launch, because I’m excited.
