Cliffy B suggests people vote with their wallet on micro-transactions

While Cliffy B said he was retired a while back, he’s sure been talking about the Games Industry a lot recently. He suggested the other day that its current state was awful and that he wouldn’t get back into it for some time. Today he’s talking about micro-transactions and basically saying if people don’t like it, don’t buy it.

Describing the games industry as “just that, an industry,” that was designed to profit and make money, he followed up by attacking those that went after EA: “I’m going to come right out and say it,” Bleszinski wrote. “I’m tired of EA being seen as ‘the bad guy. I think it’s bull**** that EA has the ‘scumbag EA’ memes on Reddit and that Good Guy Valve can Do No Wrong.”

He cited the examples of Team Fortress 2 items which can get pretty expensive and yet Valve is loved for it, while EA is hated for doing the same thing with its games.

Ultimately he says, “If you don’t like EA, don’t buy their games. If you don’t like their micro-transactions, don’t spend money on them.”

It seems in this case, Cliffy thinks the same people that complain about micro-transactions are the same as the ones buying them. Of course this isn’t true, with the vocal minority not speaking for the majority of players, just as the way those few paying hundreds of pounds for free games don’t represent the gaming public at large.
