EA Games is Pro PC
While many companies like Epic Games have said that the PC gaming platform is dieing thanks to the proliferant sharing of PC games, EA doesn’t see things the same way with the President stating he believes the platform could be the most important for the company’s future.
“The user base is gigantic,” said President Frank Gibeau explained. “PC retail may be a big problem, but PC downloads are awesome.”
“The margins are much better and we don’t have any rules in terms of first party approvals. From our perspective, it’s an extremely healthy platform. It’s totally conceivable it will become our biggest platform.”
It’s also a very open platform. We can upgrade them as we wish but as long as the can get themselves a PEGI rating, developers don’t have to go through Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo to get their game released. They don’t have to have patches pre-approved, they don’t have to charge for DLC – though that hasn’t stopped some. There are downsides of course, catering to wide hardware variations, understanding that some people simply will download your game no matter what, but in reality, you can generate a lot of money and a massively loyal fanbase if you treat them right.
Just look at games like WoW.
