Utilising Skype’s chat service, Facebook is hoping to expand their real time communications options, introducing multi user, text based chat as well as potentially video calling; therefore bringing voice communication in as well.
As it stands now, the multi-person chat feature is possible. Instead of just picking a friend and chatting with them, you should be able invite people into the chat. Conversation history will also be available, though user’s may not be so happy with Facebook storing more information on them.
The video call option will be added to the chat window soon. Apparently it will roll out for over 70 countries at once, though likely there [...]
Throughout 2010, the US navy picked up just under 60,000 microchips, though it turns out that they wern’t the originals they thought they were but in fact Chinese knock offs. The chips were deigned for use in missile defence systems and the like so its important for high quality. However, the real problem here is that these chips contained backdoor shutdown switches meaning whoever sold them could have shut them down on a whim.
The flaws in the chips were discovered by the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency who are apparently now putting testing procedures in place to stop this happening again. Of course its not just the lack of chips that the Navy now has, [...]
While Verizon plans to increase their data plan costs, roaming charges in the UK and EU are set to fall. While nothing is going to happen until 2014, the European Commission wants roaming costs to drop and for calls, data and texts between countries to be far cheaper within a few years. By the time this comes about, the EUC plans to make it possible for customers to have local and overseas contracts, seperating out the charges; something that regular travelers will be pleased with.
The Commission is also hoping that more companies will enter the virtual operator industry, giving more competition to roaming charges, forcing the larger firms to drop their tarriffs. As it stands [...]
The hacks continue with Paypal UK’s Twitter being the next to feel the pinch of the script kiddies. It became obvious what had happened when the company’s twitter feed began releasing messages stating, “PAYPAL SUCKS – LEARN WHY AT http://www.paypalsucks.com” followed by “PAYPAL FROZE ALL MY MONEY FOR NO REASON, F*** YOU!”, followed and was soon joined by, “PAYPAL CAN FREEZE YOUR FUNDS FOR NO REASON, DO NOT USE PAYPAL!!”While it does seem as perhaps an advert for a site which on inspection seems like a way of recruiting people to an alternative payment system, the hack seems legit. With Paypal attempting to regain control [...]
Microsoft is soon to make available to its Xbox 360 players, the ability to store their gamer tag data on a cloud platform. Some Xbox Live Arcade titles are already supporting this storage. This will mean that gamers can log onto friends’ Xbox consoles and access their messages and other account info.
From that point there will be no Xbox tag recovery – which can be quite a lengthy process – and will mean you don’t need to take your hard drive to different houses or carry around thos little 512MB flash storage devices. There is no word on when the cloud service will show up for real, but it’s likely to come out some time this year, allowing gamers [...]
