Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s long running CEO and successor to Bill Gates, has announced that he’s retiring at some point within the next 12 months. Until then, he will continue his duties and help search for a successor.
This news might come as a surprise to many, as we’ve heard rumours for years about Ballmer’s deliberate ousting of potential business rivals within Microsoft and his desire to maintain his position as the firm’s CEO. Now though, it seems he’s really not that fussed with it.
In an email to staff he said: “There is never a perfect time for this type of transition, but now is the right time,” Ballmer said (via [...]
There’s been a lot of talk about the next-generation of display technology over the past year or so. For a while 3D seemed like it might make enough of an impact to become the next big thing, but now it’s sort of petered off and really, no one cares. It’s nice when it’s there (unless it gives you a headache) but it’s just not necessary to enjoy a good movie. HD on the other hand, becomes something you get used to and miss when it’s not there, but 3D just doesn’t cut it.
So if you’re looking to the future and thinking what you might get as your next gaming display, you could of course just go bigger. An extra couple of inches is [...]
Valve has staunchly denied users of its Steam platform the right to resell digital games that they bought through the distribution service, despite an EU court ruling that all consumers and businesses had the right to resell their digital license for a product as long as they didn’t retain access to it after the fact. Now though, a German right’s group is taking Valve to court for its non-compliance.
The group in question, is called Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband (VZBV) and it’s now resorting to this action after receiving little in the way of a response from Valve.
Coming from ARMA developers Bohemia, this game set for Steam early access release on 1st August, looks very intriguing. It’s all about designing a Mars rover and then sending it to the red planet to explore its surface; you’ll need to be careful though, your multi-billion pound project is fragile.
In the new trailer for the game released today, Bohemia showcased how you can build and upgrade your rovers before sending them off to another world. While they’re there though, care must be taken with direction and thrust, as a slip of the hand and that solar panel could easily be ripped off, leaving the little rover with no power.
Titled for now as, Take [...]
Many Ouya Kickstarter backers are complaining today because their little android console didn’t turn up as expected. To help assuage their concerns that they’re getting screwed over by the crowd funding success company, the CEO has issued an apology.
She began it by saying, “I’m pissed,” highlighting that the shipping had all been paid for and that the units were with the distributors. In short, there was no reason that the consoles shouldn’t have arrived today.
“Some of you have not yet received your Ouya – and, to you, I apologise,” she said (via Eurogamer). “I did not promise to ship to *most* of you before [...]
